Interview with Alfred (Part 2)
This is the second in a multi-part interview series with the notorious yet beloved Alfred the Duck. Each part will be brief, but ducktacular. You can read the first part here.
“So,” I said, nervously, “you have a new tumblr story arc for us, is that right?”
The unblinking eyes of Alfred’s deep black sunglasses gave nothing away. Being a duck, he had no facial expressions that were discernible to a human such as myself. His innermost thoughts were hidden from me, buried away behind the cool exterior of a world-famous celebrity.
“Quack qua-ack, ack, quack. Quack.”
His translator, a feeble man named William, decoded Alfred’s response for me. “Yes, the new story arc is immense. I mean, you know, like, it makes you question the purpose. The purpose of the most important things. The purpose of what it means, like, to be a duck.”
“I see,” I replied, “and when will the story arc begin?”
Alfred did not reply - he was watching some birds flying past the hotel room window. Though he was hard to read, I could tell he was eyeing up some of them. Were they past conquests of his? Or future conquests waiting to happen? Either way, he only half-registered my presence. I felt small - insect-like - compared to someone of his stature.
“Erm,” said William, pushing his glasses back up his greasy nose, “today.”
And so it began.
